I recently purchased an Athlon 1ghz, I am using a OCZ-Monster II Cooling fan. This is all on a Giga-Byte GA-7DX. The reason I'm writing is that I think my chip is running too hot. I've had some problems when playing DVD and in game demos. The computer periodically slows down and emits a solid tone beep from the speakers while it does, it only lasts for about 5 seconds. I checked the temp in the bios and the CPU reads between 52 and 58 degrees Celcius, but this is not during any task, just idle (the ambiant temp is 23-25). I didn't use any thermal compound; can it make a big difference? If so which one should I use and where can I get it. Any other suggestions?

Oh Chron you absolutely must use some thermal compound. If the HSF came with that crappy stuff taped to the bottom ripped it off clean it real good with a degreaser and get your self some ArticSilver or OCZ quicksilver. I bet you'll see a 10 degree drop in temps!

Not to throw a wet blanket on this siver paste (I use it myself), but you guys do know you have to be extremely careful with silver paste ... you don't want to short anything out ... just be careful out there ...
