I've got a similar problem but different stuff. My older WD hardrive doesn't come up fast enough for my P3B-F. I get a boot drive not found error unless I let it go through the memory check. This works, but makes booting take a long time. I know it has something to do with the mobo being ATA/66 and my drive only being 33. Is there a better fix?

I had similar problems with an even older drive and found the "HD delay" option in the BIOS fixed my problem, might want to give that a try!

Hello Does the BIOS have to be a newer version in order for Win 2K to run from a ultra dma harddrive.

I have tried the fix you posted but the system hangs after the ultra dma 66 controller is found.the system will boot off the ultra dma hang drive but shows errors and then the blue screen of death appears.

Any help would be greatly welcome

Thanks

What board to you have? I would use the latest BIOS and the latest High-Point Drivers from http://www.highpoint-tech.com/

Remember to not only update the mobo BIOS but to update the UDMA controller BIOS as well if one is available! Especially on HighPoint controllers!

I have the Abit BE6, and am wondering where to get the latest HighPoint UDMA Controller BIOS. I am not sure if it is somewhere on the Abit site, or the HighPoint site. I have tried to get Windows 2000 working before, and now I think I will be able to. Than-you LittleWhitDog, max, and Rover!

I'm not sure about the BE6-II but for the BP6 there are some custom BIOSes that included the HPT366 controller BIOS. You can go here http://www.highpoint-tech.com/366drivers.htmfor the latest HPT366 BIOS but it states that they are only for the PCI controller cards and if the controller is built in you must get the update from the mobo manufacture!

Heres one for ya,

I followed the directions on the page in question, very well written and easy to understand. I've run into a problem when I install the HPT366 drivers in Windows 2000 They have that fun little yellow exclamation point beside them and when looking under properties I see :

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take affect.

Click Troubleshooter to start the troubleshooter for this device."

I figure, no problem, It jsut doesnt see the hard drive yet, however when I reboot the system, it gets to the Windows 2000 logon screen and then the blue screen of death shows up with the inaccessible boot device.

Anyone have any ideas? It's a BE6 motherboard and I have installed the new bios (TH).

Read your mobo manual and make sure you don't have a card in a PCI slot that is conflicting with the controller, or have something set for legacy! Also, try putting the drive on the 33 controller and see if windows boots, then look in Device manager and try and get them working before moving the drive back the ATA66 controller. If you go that route you may want to put a blank drive on the 33 controller so that Win2K doesn't freak out on the first boot. Once the 1st successful boot off the ATA66 is complete, remove the extra drive off the ATA33 and see if Win2K comes up OK?!

Hrm, i have an old 100mb hard drive from a 386 system, it is completely empty and formatted with fat32, when i put it into ide1, and my WD10.2 drive into ide3, and make it boot a, c, ext it always says "invalid system disk" same thing it says if you accidently leave a normal floppy in your drive.. and it continues to say that if i press enter or whatever, and the only wayt out of that is to put in boot disk in the floppy, or to restart........ any ideas on why?

win2k and all the drivers are already set, system works fine if i put the wd 10.2 on ide1, bios and hpt bios are all updated, as well as the win2k drivers...

I'm having the same problem with Abit BE6-II 1.2 mobo. The only HDD I have is IBM Deskstar 20G (UDMA4), I've disabled ATA66 controller, but anyway that doesn't work. I've tried a thousand different combinations, flashed a new BIOS, have removed all extra cards from my PC... But this doesn't help. I constantly get "INACESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE". Anyone can help?
