I'm wondering if I would see much if any improvement from switching from my Coolermaster HHC-001 to a SLK-800. Under full load *seti* my xp 2100+ maxes out at 53c, average is around 50c. Ambient temperature in my room is 29c. *Yes I'm aware thats painfully hot, damn St. Louis weather along with crappy air conditioning in this house*
I am using the stock coolermaster fan on this heatsink, I'm not overclocking, yet.

When I switched from a Swiftech to an AX-7 my temps dropped by about 6C under full load and I think you would have about the same drop or possibly even more. Overclockers.com rates that heatsink at the very top for air cooling. Check out the comparison here http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/
What type of thermal paste are you using? cuz if your not using Arctic Silver 3 then I definitely recommend it especially if you plan to overclock that CPU. |

Seems to me that's right in line with your ambient temp. I get 50c using a Vantec CopperX with an 80mm fan and adapter. I'm sure you'll get a better result with the SLK-800. It's a much better heatsink. Check this link:

Smokin - The 800 rocks. It is a bit pricey and I wouldn't suggest it if you do any traveling to parties, it's a heavy hunk of copper. Would put lots of stress on the cpu socket when you're kicking it out of the way to make some extra room in the back seat of the lovemobile after the party breaks up & you've found that perfect spot past the Zoo and before Washington University, where they chain the streets every other week to keep traffic from spoiling the mood.[8D]
Is your case temp fairly close to room temp? It would be cheaper to add some fans to your case to try and bring down case temps. www.nexfan.com

Little far from me, thats closer to Brain, lol....but he can get his freak on at his house.
Perfect spot for me is a grassy hill overlooking the meramec river. Plus getting there is half the fun, theres an abondoned mining road from the 1950's thats "closed" off. Hey its not closed off if the gate isnt locked now is it?? Actually I correct myself, the gate is broken, someone rammed thru it. Very cool place actually, I wasted a lot of time there a couple of summers ago, its a great mountain biking area, just gotta watch out for deer, snakes, west nile carrying mosquitos, angry drunks, stoners, and some homeless dudes living out of the burnt out mining buildings, but once you get near river theres a couple boats that have been beached on the shore and a locomotive in the middle of the river *I think it derailed off the bridge*. It's amazing what cool stuff you can find out in the middle of nowhere.

Basements are good, Stalin and Hitler, er my sweet parents promised me a room in the basement of our new house. Its half done and I continue to offer help but with no luck...
Any ways, you can open a window that really helps CPU, room and case temps since its cooler outside now.
With bad HVAC in our house and windows close my XP 1700+ @ full load hit 42C max and the case would hit 34C
Now w/ the 21-12C air coming in my room and proper flow through the house my CPU is@36C and case@25C
So children the moral of the story is don't go back for second w/ a prostitute that gave u crabs, as there could be other things lurking around her....oh wait wrong moral, open windows is what i meant
