Well I got the itch again to build a new system. However this time I'm going to focus on the cheapest h2o cooling and parts. I'm using bits from here and there and profits from ebay sales.

I'll be posting updates when things change.

Frankie built list
  • Yamaha cd-rw $0.00
  • ATI Rage pro $0.00
  • Floppy $0.00
  • HD 6gig $0.00
  • SuSe (linux) $0
  • 128 sdimm pc133 cas 2.5 $0.00
  • ECS K7S5A $52.00 forked up here could have gotten it for 35 in the refreb area on newegg

Total $52 so far

The remaining parts will be added when I visit Home depot for tubing and clamps, autozone for the heater core.

OH BOY DRIMMEL TIME Cool Smile and Tools.

How ghetto do you want to go? :-D

Raid the local junk yard for the heater core.

I've actually been thinking about putting together a water-cooled PC, just haven't yet. Ever consider running copper or aluminum lines instead of plastic?

Or is condensation a factor? I could do some serious pipe-bending, that would really set the inside of a case off.

An infinite number of monkeys pounding away on keyboards will eventually produce a report showing that Windows is more secure and has a lower TCO, than linux.

What about insulated tubing would that stop condensation. I mean you are isolating the pipes from the rest of the parts. My friend added a peltier chip one time. It cooled too well and he ended up with a hardrive with rust on it. I would really like to do some cooling. I was thinking of using my IWILL KK266 with AMD 1,2 ghz 256 mb ram. 32mb Geforece 2 MX400. Is there a good site which tells you where to buy or make the water block and radiator?

This is my second h2o system first h2o cost 300 to do (danger den) and love it, nice a quite.

Frankie is project to see how cheap I can go without spraying the floor with water or smoking a chip. I dont like the idea of pushing the limit on cold. 30c to 40c is always my target on full load.

Oh man cu tube Big Smile

Well Frankie is getting my old case. Just ordered a new YELLOW Chieftec Matrix Server case. So tack another $40 to the bill. Total todate: 92.

On to the cooling part and cpu.

Update: XP1700 ($60)
Fan ($0) (currently using an old heat sink and fan)
OS FreeBSD
HD WD ($0) old 12gig
Arctic silver $2

I will say the Arctic silver is worth the price, it cut temps by 8 degree on the system. No other changes, so Im a happy camper on that account

So till the H20 comes on line Frankie costed me $154 to build.
H2O will be parts from one of my newer systems, so I can update that one. When all said and done its going to cost $200.
