I just got done stripping a couple PCs down to build a "legacy" machine with Win98 for my roommate. She has a bunch of games that she hasn't played yet that won't run on her PIII box under XP. I am crunching SETI to burn in the system (don't tell her, but I don't intend to take it off before I give it to her) and I saw that under load for about half an hour it hits about 33 degrees. Now my Athalon 1.2 hits that about half way through the post. While I don't think I should be concerned I can't for the life of me find anywhere what is the operating range for that chip. It is of course a slot 1 with factory cooling.

Here are Intel's guidelines relating to the normal operating temperatures of PII and PPGA Celeron processors (scroll down until you see the table). According to the table the PII-400's maximum operating temperature is 75 deg.C.

A skillet? My friend and I managed to push 150C before it went to little CPU and MOBO heaven.
