is it true that slot-load drives can break easier than the tray-load drives? |

I used several SLOT load drives in the past, and my experience with them is not breakage. Granted, if a SLOT Load drive breaks, it will probably be more difficult to than a tray load drive. But my complaint about SLOT load drives is from time to time, if you are not VERY CAREFUL EVERYTIME you can scratch the hell outta your CD's. You go to put on in, and aren't thinking clearly, so you don't put it in all the way... those little 'teeth' inside grab it and try to yank it in and scratch the hell out of your disk. The new ones aren't as bad as they used to be but hell, I even ruined a few audio CD's in the CD player in my truck! Guess its a matter of opinion though...

I have noticed slot loads can scratch a c.d. I don't know if it's the actual c.d. player, or me just trying to jam the stupid thing in there while I'm driving, lighting a cigarette and shifting at the same time. |

Yeah I've heard the same thing, slot CDs drives can scratch the beejeezus out of CDs and if it's a burned one a small scratch can spell disaster!

Yeah, but if your careful....I prefer slots cuz they keep more dust out of the drive then a tray loader. Not to mention, there is not try to hit with my knee [(!]

Tell me about it! I was at a user's desk installing software and I had sat down on the edge of the chair. When I went to eject the CD I slipped off the edge of the seat and put my entire 285 pounds of weight down on the freshly ejected CD tray. Needless to say it snapped like a toothpick. Boy was I embaressed![:I]

The cartridge days may be coming back. The DVD-RW by Creative Labs that Max reviewed uses a cartridge!
