2K and I think XP also use a different kernal for Single and MP and if you install with one then add the second it can casue problems. I had a 2K server go nuts when I did that. But I never tried it with professional also you can try upgrading the HAL after you add the second but it didn't work for me I had to reinstall. |

actually you should be able to change HAL's on the fly
M$ says you can't . . but that's never stopped me before
the only worries in my opinion are if you start out with the non acpi hal and switch TO ACPI . . . that generally guarantees you'll be fuxored

I always ignore M$ but for some reason when I changed the HAL it kept acting nutty so I just backed up and reinstalled. The problems never started till I added the second CPU and after the reinstall it has never manifested again in almost 3 yrs. GOD I LOVE an asus board and a BX chipset |
