tecgod13 wrote:Has anyone tried putting the bacon on a drying rack, then the rack on a cookie sheet? That would drain the grease as it cooks.
Also, the grilling method, does that mean fire up the grill like to barbecue, or am I missing something?
Yes...I tried the cooling rack with the same thinking about keeping it out of the grease. It took close to 45 minutes to cook and it wasn't all that great. It needs the grease to "fry" and render the rest of the fat out of the bacon. Think that liquid has more heat transfer than air does...
Grill in the poll is meant fer both...
Grill on the barbeque or on the stove grill/griddle. |

I'll be right over to help you with yer bacon...
Slow cooked as in a slow cooker/crockpot. Usually not crunchy...
Deep frying does have it's advantages/disadvantages... Advantage: Cooks up really quick and crispy. A much better texture than any other method. Disadvantage: Can git burnt pretty quick if yer not careful. Also, the salt in the bacon will contaminate the frying oil and life expectancy of the oil will be shortened fairly quickly. Not sure if is any worse fer health by deep frying. Putting batter around the bacon will make it less healthy though... |

Just tried making 6 strips in the convection toaster oven at 425°F with the convection on, no preheat, and at 15 minutes. Rule one...don't let EEp distract you while cooking at the higher temp...less time to git to the toaster oven.
It wasn't burnt but a little bit more crispier than I was expecting. I'll probably knock the temp down to 400°F.
Guess it will be turkey bacon's turn in the oven next... |

Hey...I have to cover my bases. Maybe I'll cook turkey bacon right beside the normal bacon...that way it will pick up some "flavor"... |

I like my bacon well done but there is a tiny window between well-done and overdone when baking it at 400 degrees. I think I will cut it down to 350 degrees when I am not in a hurry...I will always be distracted if it takes more than 3 seconds to cook anything... |

Bam, I am to bacon what alcoholics are to booze! I just try to cook it only when there is someone else around to eat it. I suspect that EEp gets plenty from you.
Thanks, I'll try 375 degrees first and make shorter increments in setting a timer than I have done in the past. |
