After weeks of fighting with my Iwill board, and fighting with Iwill's technical support, I finally got things up and running, just not in the Iwill board(Anyone want to buy an Iwill DVD266u-RN with supposed tualautin support, that doesn't work with tualutins??).
I now have 2xP3-S 1.13GHz 512K L2 CPU's running on a Tyan Tiger 230T, and I have to say, I'm a little dissapointed. I figured the doubled L2 would make a pretty big difference, and I was sort of wrong.
It does make a good difference, just not as good as I was hoping for. Part of the problem is having to use damn Via chipsets. If you want duallie tuallies, you have to use via.
I just thought I would throw out a few comparisons with the 2xP3-700 that they replaced.
Sandra:
CPU Benchmark
P3-700 3791 MIPS
P3-1.13 6379 MIPS
P3-700 1909 MFLOPS
P3-1.13 3012 MFLOPS
CPU Multimedia
P3-700 Int 7776 it/s
P3-1.13 Int 12384 it/s
P3-700 FPU 9506 it/s
P3-1.13 FPU 15360 it/s
I'd love to show you more benchmarks, but I sold the 700's already, and Sandra was the only ones I had written down.
One thing I do love, is temperature! Right now With SETI running in the background, I'm sitting at 26C/27C for CPU#1/CPU#2 respectively. And thats at a room temp of 22C. I'm pretty happy with 5C over ambient.
I'd love to try OC'ing these puppy's, but the Tyan board has absolutely zero overclocking options. |

At 26C/27C do you even need fans (that's what my case temp is normally) ... those numbers look mighty impressive to me ... what about SETI :

I haven't tried removing the fans ... yet. I remembered after posting that I didn't put any goop on those when I was putting it together. After all the trouble I've had, I didn't want to waste any until I was sure it was going to work.
SETI is actually what dissapoints me the most. I'm getting around 6-6.5hrs per WU. |

Thats 6-6.5hrs per WU running to WU at a time with CPU affinity set in SETI Driver.
I haven't had too much of a chance to play with it yet, perhaps I can get it a bit faster yet. |

I just fired it up, and disconnected the CPU fans. Damn is it quiet!! I have SETI running in the background, and then am just surfing and checking email. It's been nearly five minutes now and the temps are up to 29/30C.
I need to get a couple of those Zalman flower heatsinks, and then I can probably run without fans easily. I still have the fans on the heatsinks, which are probably inhibiting cooling a bit, and I still haven't put goop on there.
Oops. I just noticed the temps are still climbing. Up to 34/31C.
This is definatly something worth working towards. A quiet AND fast computer. |

I stuck a couple of low speed fans on the heatsinks. It is pretty quiet, although not as quiet as it was with no fans:)
So far with the low speed fans the highest temps I have seen are 32/33C. Loudness is such a subjective thing, but, I would say it is half as loud as it was with the two 33cfm thermaltake fans. |

Still without the goop I just have to get off of my lazy ass and throw some in there.
Maybe tonight ... |

this is the lowest db-A fan i was able to find on caseetc http://www.caseetc.com/cgi-bin/caseetc/F-007.html they have some watercooling equipment there too.
I have two of those fans in my case(Antec SX1030). One of them blows directly on my hard drive. The other is an exhaust fan. I also have a 92mm Panaflo L1A(29dba@40cfm) as an intake. The loudest fan in my system besides the heatsink fans is the one remaining Antec fan that came with the case.
I am seriously thinking of trying to get my hands on a couple of those Zalman flower heatsinks. I should be able to run without heatsink fans then. I also have another of the 92mm L1A's laying around. If I get the zalmans, then I might throw the other 92mm in right behind the heatsinks as an exhaust fan. |

may you post memory bandwidth benchmarks of those dual tualatins when you get a chance. |
