I received one of these bad boys today from Mr Natwest. Now apparently the obfuscation the devices use is an implementation of a freely available specification.

Does anyone know of a software implementation one could use with a USB EMV card reader?

hmm.

http://wiki.lugs.org.sg/OpenSourceContributions ?

I also came across this pseudo-Usenet link which seems to have a lot of information and sources of information. Dunno if it helps much.

I've been poking around Sourceforge, there look to be a couple of different projects dealing with this, but not sure what the status of some of them are.

Hmm indeed. It might be worth spelunking the archive of that newsgroup, thanks for the link.
