I got an Inspiron 2500 (800mhz Celeron) from my sister in law. I am planning on replacing the Stock cd-rom drive(no writer, hopefully they have a DVD replacement), upgrade the memory ( only got 256) and maybe see if I can find a cheap PIII to put in there. Something I have been planning on doing to my Armada 1750 as well.
I love old laptops. They are still useful to me. Especially when traveling. |

I got the bid, and am typing on it now. Thanks for giving me the confidence to try this! I thought a laptop would be impossible to fix. The seller was great, too.
Now to the other problems: you mentioned a daughter card to boost my crappy video? I never heard of that. If I open this up and take pictures, would you be able to tell if I could upgrade that a bit?
I should also get a dvd drive that works, but they are touchy. I don't know if i would trust ebay for that. It doesn't have to play movies (but that would be nice) I mainly want to be able to reinstall Winxp or Ubuntu. I guess it could be an external drive if that would work... Would an old dvd drive from a regular computer work? |

5.25" external drive enclosure that allows for CD drives and a USB port... there you go...

lots to choose from within $5 of each other. Make sure it's got CD drive capability... and then put your choice of drive in |
