|
OK, I'm in the process of setting up my Domain Controller to handle all my logins, and setting up Active Directory with folder redirection.
One of my possible issues is that I personally, travel to multiple sites, 2 of which have DCs. My boss also travels between the 2 sites with DCs.
Is it possible to have the servers synchronize the users My Documents (which are being redirected) so that when I'm logged in at Site A and my doc's are sent to the server, and then travel to Site B, have the servers compare notes and synchronize, so that when I get to Site B, my recent doc's are there as well? |

That's beyond my meagre and piss-poor knowledge of AD, I'm afraid. All I can suggest is to read up about DFS; I remember it's something to do with making resources available without forcing the users to remember arcane and abstruse UNC paths. Might help, might not. |

Should help, although I've never done it for folder redirection.
DFS, in a very rudimentary nutshell, syncs files from server to server. I would have to assume that if one of the DFS shares was "user folders" that this would do what you want.
However, you say 2 DC's. Primary and Secondary, or two different domains? If the later, that could become conserably more difficult, as the AD UID's will no longer match. |

At the risk of being booted out of "OS-Microsoft"...
DRBD does exactly this.
http://www.drbd.org/
One of our bigger clients uses it to run a multi-primary-node clustered filesystem. (As opposed to classic primary/standby failover cluster arrangements.) I.e., you can have your directory mounted on as many servers as you like simultaneously (entirely transparently, I would assume). It sounds like quite clever stuff.
Apparently it works quite well for them and it's Free Software too. |
