|
So my device manager displays a T7100 1.80 Ghz duo processor, but the system properties report it as a T7500 2.20 proc, w/ 4M L2 cache, which is what I thought I had purchased. Which do I believe? The Vaio tech support guy said it had to do with me not using enough of the processor so it "speedsteps" down. Would that really change what it registers as in the device manager? I'm totally new to Vista so I'm not sure if this is normal. |

<edit>Welcome to the forums, reighdahr.</edit>
Theoretically speedstep could do that. If, at the tyme, it was stepped down. To check I would make sure the machine is not running on battery power abd start up something that uses CPU to the max. Like a Folding client.
Then check again while the Folding client is running.

My VAIO laptop has an Intel Core Duo T7200 @ 2GHz, but when I don't need all of that power it steps down to 1000MHz presumably to prolong my battery life |

Try CPU-Z. It should tell you the real situation. |
