|
I've been looking for a new cell phone to replace my Motorola V220.
Websites seem to differentiate between "prepaid" phones and regular phones. Obviously the prepaid phones are crap. I want a Razr. Why?
http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS8917567693.html
The new Razr2 V8 will be Linux based and Moto released a native SDK. I have an itch to code that I want to scratch.
Obviously since I mentioned prepaid phones above, that means I currently am on a prepaid plan. I'm using Cingular's pay-as-you-go thing.
Can I just simply take my SIM card and stick it into any ol' unlocked phone and it'll work? I'm just wary of it because the sites I've been to categorize prepaid phones separately, which makes me think a SIM card on a prepaid plan won't work in normal cell phones?
If that's the case, screw it. I'm not going into another contract. Not even marriage. |

borrow someone's phone and see if the sim will work (same network or unlocked)... if it does... score... if not... yeah... contract time. |

It worked on my brother's Samsung which he got on a contract. But the Razrs are expensive so I wanted to be sure before I throw away money.
I'll ask some people at work if they'll let me try, I know at least one person with a Razr. |

Is it going to matter if you are on a GSM network, and your phone is a CDMA? |

I think the Razrs support GSM, and yes I am on a GSM network. |

the razrs sold by at&t (cingular) are gsm phones... the razrs sold by verizon and t-mobile are cdma. as long as it's a gsm phone and unlocked or at&t, his sim card should work in it. |

I currently use an unlocked T-mobile with AT&T or cingular, or AT&T, ...
AT&T sim card should work in ANY unlocked phone, HOWEVER you may need to do some setup if it doesn't have the info for cingulars, or AT&T's or Cingulars, network in there already... most all of that info is easy to find online, and mostly only effects text messages, and media (interweb) things... not the actual voice phone stuff.
I had to setup my voice mail number in my phone becaues it didn't have it on the sim card where t-mobile wants it to be... but it was no big deal to get all the numbers punched in once, and never worry about it again, (until you acciedentally cook your phone with the code, and need to reset it to factory defaults.) |
