|
So I'm in the market to build a new machine, specifically for the ability to play the upcoming game Crysis.
Here is my proposed machine:
I'll be getting an Intel Q6600, I'm just watching for prices to possibly drop a bit more on them.
Any thoughts or recommendations for this rig? I think it's fairly sound, but am open to suggestions.

Since the P35 does not do SLI I would suggest forking out for 8800GTX. That or go for a board with the 680i chipset and have the option to get another 8600 a little later.
Especially since you do not seem to require the P35 chipset with the other stuff you have there.
<edit>Thats a sweet case!</edit>

heh... remember the days of full tower cases that were taller than toddlers?
it says full tower case, but it's 4 inches too short... my old AT full tower is about 24.5 inches tall. |

Crysis is rumored to have steep hardware requirements. I'd definitely suggest the GeForce 8800GTS over the 8600GTS for that sort of need. The 700W power supply is way over the top. You would do fine with a good 500 to 620W version from SeaSonic (or a SeaSonic unit with a Corsair or Antec EarthWatts brand on it).
What resolution is your monitor? |

GeForce 8800GTS 320MB should work well with your low-resolution monitor. If you were running at 1920x1200, you'd want the 640MB version. |

When is Crysis coming out? Building a computer to suit a game (in this case Doom 3) that hasn't been released yet is a mistake I made a few years back... The game was delayed for almost 2 years, and by the time it came out the computer was old. I'm not saying don't do it, just make sure is all.
That having been said, I'm building a new rig to play Duke Nukem Forever! |

Oceanic Release: November 15, 2007
North American Release: November 16, 2007
European Release: November 16, 2007
Developer: Crytek
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Genre: Science Fiction, First Person Shooter

The machine I'm building is so far, well above the recommended specs for the game.

And upon further review JAE, I have changed out for a different PSU, lower wattage, but not by much. All reviews I have read on it say it's a fantastic PSU.
