|
My eMachine desktop is 6 months old...
Intermittently, the keyboard will quit working, all the keys. usually after hibernating or being idle a while. If you restart, it works like normal.
I have Windows XP SP2 Media Edition. No other problems though.
What do you think? Driver problem? Bad keyboard? |

Is it a USB keyboard?
Does it start working if you just unplug it and plug it in again? |

I will check when I get home if it is USB, and post back...
Unplugging and replugging had no effect though I remember. |

I have the same problem... mine's PS2... XP Pro SP2... and I built this machine myself using an Asus mobo. intermittant is the word... when I lose the keyboard, I lose the mouse too. The machine isn't locked up though, I can plug in a USB mouse and do whatever I want with just the mouse... like reboot... but it usually happens after hibernation (which isn't used any more because of it) or after one of those IRQ not less than or equal to BSODs that doesn't actually show a BSOD.
btw... the keyboard ALWAYS works fine in BIOS or until the XP drivers take control of it. The mouse will work to login and do whatever I want until I press a key and THEN the keyboard and mouse are no use any more. I've debated using a USB keyboard and mouse on this thing just to avoid this issue, but I'm too cheap to actually do it.
If anyone ever finds a solution to this issue, I'd like to know (if that is before I totally convert this thing to linux) |

Has hibernation ever worked properly, for anybody? I think not.
Even if it did work, the benefits of it are practically non-existent. |

Hibernation works flawlessly on my second PC. Maybe that's because it has an ATI chipset? |

Hibernation works flawlessly on both laptops (XP home on one and Pro on the other) and did on this beast until the re-install before last of XP. Since then... random crappers.
my 5v and 3v rails are a little weak though on the voltage... I have an antec PSU now... any suggestions as to what would be a good brand to get that won't cost much? (thinking it might be voltage variance in this supply... it's about 5 years old anyhow) |
