So I was thinking I could drive my truck more if I reprogrammed it to stop needing 93 octane fuels.... hooke up my trusty programmer, erases the ECU, writes the new program for 87 octane and ... Error #70, please call 800-whatever.
blech.
No more truck till tech support fixes the programmer |

Sucks to hear that your truck isn't running. But curious as to what type of truck you have that needed 93 octane? Where you getting some pinging or ? when you ran the 87 octane fuel? |

If it's that Dakota you had, I don't see why it needed 93, I ran 86 in mine the whole time I had it. Only thing I could think of is something to do with the air/fuel ratio due to being in Colorado. |

Heh, he used a hypertech program to alter the original AIR/FUEL maps of the ECU, it erases the factory dodge programs and puts in a performance map that requires 93 octane. However, when he tried to go back to stock the thing borked up and wouldn't rewrite the stock map. Thus leaving him with a truck thats worthless. |

It's not worthless I could buy a spare ECU....
Hypertech is doing a reload on the programmer.
I put in 1.7 roller rockers, hardened pushrods, new injectors, gibson SS headers/exhaust, and bored out the throttle body. It was running great. I don't drive my truck that often...but it defiantely performed better and actually did get better gas mileage after I did all that work, and then I tracked it after the programmer changes too and mileage again went up. I wasn't going back to the Stock program, just the lower octane setting. $3.50/gallon got to me at 20 gallons a pop. |

I got a new programmer in the Fedex truck today....with a Pre-Load. Followed directions and walla...truck runs like a champ. Back to a normal octane setting now, with my rev limiter and tire calibration (speedo is now accurate!) settings corrected
Hurray to Hypertech for living up to their Lifetime Warranty to the Original Purchaser!
Proof of Life!
Coming back from a test drive with the "new" program in place! |
