I saw a thread on Techguy advising not to get the nVidia 8000 series cards because of problems with Vista. What is the best card I can get in the $300-$400 price range?

My config will be C2D E6600, 4 GB GeIL DDR2 PC2 6400 RAM, ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard, a TV tuner (yet to be determined), and dual moniters--a 20" 1400 x 1050 and a 22" 1680 x 1050. Also plan to have a dual boot with WinXP MCE and Vista Home Premium

I suggest the GeForce 8800GTS. The 320MB version is less than $300, while the 640MB version falls into your specified price range.

I like gaming and I like high graphics settings. Will the 320 handle my setup (with future DX10 games in mind) or should I get the 640?

The 320MB card will perform very well at 1680x1050. It doesn't fall down until you crank the resolution up higher. Gaming at 2560x1600 really needs at least 512MB.
