|
Every now and again I test Linux. Usually I do not like the experience much and stop after a short while.
Anyway....
I'm on Ubuntu now. Had an idea to use the machine as a Media device and to stream/play stuff from my domain.
PROBLEM:
I can see the Windows domain and its computers. But I can not log into and get access to it.
I get to the Authentication Required window. But when I use the correct Username, Domain and Password all I get is a Can Not Desplay Folder Info.
I've tried giving the WRONG info and the result is exactly the same as when I supply the right info...
Ideas anyone?

Let me take a look at my setup tonight and I will get back to you. I was able to authenticate to my Domain Controller and access Files through Ubuntu |

Sorry didn't mean to make it sound that easy
I found that using the built in Software does all the work for finding and installing any opensource software with out having to compile the files at all. |

ubuntu is definitely the "easiest" to setup that I've used so far. It doesn't support the 1920x1200 screen in my laptop, so I ditched it for Fedora 7. I have other gripes about F7 (KNetworkManager doesn't auto-load on login) but those may be fixed with updates as the screen issue in ubuntu may well be... I use simple sharing on my network... and file sharing works fine in samba in both flavors... though you gotta be weird with the printer... use anon to browse and guest to login. dunno why (bettin on a windows bug feature)
you may also have issues with the domain server being biased against linux. I've never heard of it being true, but you never know with M$
Hopefully noodly can help ya |

do make sure your workgroup is set right.
My ubuntu works fine with both the macs and the pcs. And the uh linux server... come to think of it I haven't tried it with a windows server. |

No workgroup is set. Just the domain. Which it finds just fine... but can not get access too.
All seems fine, until I try to gain entry to the machine.

Yes.
But the process is different. On the Win machines I log in on the domain when logging on the machine, so to speak. I have yet to find an option for that in Ubuntu. There aught to be such an option, methinks.

What screen comes up when you try to log into the server from you linux box?
Does it give you the option to put in your Username Domain and password?
That's the only thing I really have to do and I connect to my server |

It does give me that option. And when I supply the correct stuff it ays it can not show the content of the folder.
I've tried making an account just for the (user) on the Ubunty, as well as using other accounts, including domain admin.
