There's some information in the release notes I posted:

http://docs.fedoraproject.org/release-notes/f7/en_US/sn-Installer.html#Upgrades-versus-Installs

Quote:
In general, fresh installations are recommended over upgrades, particularly for systems that include software from third-party repositories.

Most all installations of Fedora use software from third party repositories I'll wager, so I would probably go for fresh install (I certainly will with my FC6 box).

If you're feeling brave however, backup everything it tells you to in the release notes and do a "yum upgrade." I've done it once on my very nearly stock CentOS box and it worked without issue, but I've never tried it on Fedora. The worst that can happen is you bork it and have to fresh install anyway.

I did the hard version of the on-line upgrade with downloading the latest yum/RHN file for the next version and then did a yum update. that was from fc4 to fc5... with fc6, I just used the ISO and ran the upgrade from anaconda. I may try a live upgrade after tarballing the whole system... then again, I may just wait for 8 to come out since updates are still rolling on 6.

the only issues I encountered were version upgrades on sendmail (had to re-configure sendmail.mc and then do a few line edits in sendmail.cf) Other than that... worked fine... but then it's a server and virtually bare of superfluous stuff (data files don't count Very Happy )

I'll probably do a clean install then. All I really use it for is to poke around on and as a file server. My storage disc is on a separate drive, so I should be able to do a clean install without affecting too much.
