The stats for this card SHOULD be 600mhz core clock and 700 mhz(1400ddr) memory. It is showing up in AtiTool and 3DMark as 600 core/400 memory. What gives?!
Another telltale sign there is a problem is when I run 3DMark05, I get a score of 4777 which is over 2000 points lower than comparison systems with the same build as mine. |

Dammit. I think I answered my own question. It looks like Newegg sent me the DDR2 version which is 400mhz(800ddr). BASTARDS. RMA time... |

On the Radeon X1650Pro and X1650XT front, I see that many of these cards have a 128-bit memory interface. That will cut your effective bandwidth in half compared to cards with a 256-bit memory interface and the same memory clock. The clock speed difference between the GDDR2 and GDDR3 versions is startling, isn't it?
For $141AR, the Radeon X1950Pro might be a good choice.
$156 Radeon X1950GT 256MB PCIe (12 pipes, 36 shaders, 500/1200 MHz 256-bit)
$161-20MIR Radeon X1950Pro 256MB PCIe (12 pipes, 36 shaders, 580/1400 MHz, 256-bit) <--- Look at me!
$196-25MIR Radeon X1950Pro 512MB PCIe (12 pipes, 36 shaders, 580/1400 MHz, 256-bit)
$216-20MIR Radeon X1950XT 256MB PCIe (16 pipes, 48 shaders, 625/1800 MHz, 256-bit)

Thanks JAE. That was going to be my next question, which card should I go for. I was thinking of the X1650XT Because I don't want to go too much over $100 but I may just jump up to the X1950.
There's also this which is only $134.99 after rebate. What do you think?
What would you recommend on the Nvidia side in this price range? |

GeForce 8800GTS is a very good card that supports DirectX 10. If you're willing to spend this much, it's better than AMD/ATI's current generation of hardware. I wouldn't bother with anything less from NVidia.
Note that new mid-range GeForce 8600 cards and AMD/ATI's overdue DirectX 10 card are due out in the next month, so this may not be the best week to buy a high-end graphics card. I'm going to try to wait at least a month after the launch of ATI's R600 for the dust to settle before I upgrade.
Getting back to Akely's point, numerous bugs in NVidia's drivers have stymied the folding at home team's efforts to get the folding client to run on GeForce8 GPUs, but it runs terrifically on Radeon X1950 GPUs. |

Oh, I see. I wondered what he meant with the Folding comment. I'll get back into that once I get this vid card situation sorted out.
OK, so it looks like I'll go with the X1950Pro. For another $30, I might as well.
Thanks again! |

I Fold on a Radeon x1950 Pro (256 MB). It produces a whopping 600 points per day.

WOW. That is a lot. I used to do it, I think I'm still listed on there somewhere under hrbib21 but I'll definitely do it again. My comp is on all day anyway so it's not like it's a big deal. |

Guys, I'm a little concerned about the PSU with an X1950Pro. I have this one: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817153023 and I'm reading that you need 30 amps on the 12v and it looks like my PSU doesn't have that.
Bottom line, I already have to return one vid card and I don't want to have to return another. |

Bah! They overstate the power supply requirements to make up for the PSU manufacturers who lie about (overstate) their capacities. My whole system (including 30" monitor at 80+ Watts) pulls less than 330W from the UPS while gaming. Radeon X1950Pro uses the RV570 core, which is smaller and uses less power than the GPU in the Radeon X1950XTX. |

Seconded. I have a fanless PSU that delivers... not much at all. I'm fine. Fine I say.
