I know i have seen this question a few times before but here goes anyway.

Is 50°c too hot at full load running seti@home?

CPU is an Athlon XP 1600+ with a GlobalWin WBK38 HSF.

BTW My ears are bleeding. This thing is LOUD![v]

No... running full load that's within spec.

Focus on getting air into and out of the case. My Tbird 900 runs about 46 with a coolermaster... fan in front sucking in, exhaust fan in the rear blowing out. Enlight 32xx case...

The new P4-1700 I have a Thermaltake P4 Volcano 478 and that sucker is loud... but it keeps the unit cool running at 40 under full load...

Thanks for the quick response. I have never delt(sp?) with AMD stuff before so i am unsure of the specs.
I was nervous as hell putting the HSF on cause of all the horror stories i have heard. but it went without a problem. Wheew.

I have the sides of the case off.
I'm affraid if i put them on it will get really hot in there. But it should muffle the hairdryer sounding fan I hope.

I just pulled up SIV (Gigabyte thingy), and with SETI running full bore, and streaming MP3 in the background, the box is running at 52 degrees centigrade... it's warm, but no worries... AMD's run hot...

I wouldn't worry about it too much...

Hey, I also have a new Athlon Xp 1600

I also work at a computer store and have recently build many of them. We have decided that the CPU temperature for these chips depends on the board. I have an MSI K7T Turbo and a Global Fan and mine runs at 45 degrees. When we use the Shuttle motherboard for instance we have had them running under 25 degrees. So it depends on the motherboard! wierd but true trust me i have built like 50 of the things in like 3 weeks.

Thanks guy and this site rocks found it today!!
