Seems that a 600 lb gorillia is coming to dinner and he aint going to be kind.

Oracle seems to be getting mean

Id say kiss the fedora goodbye.

Red Hat's stock value plummeted 24 percent following the announcement of Oracle's plans to provide support services for Red Hat consumers at extremely competitive prices. Red Hat downplayed concerns before the announcement despite clear warning signs, prompting us to accuse the company of being short-sighted. Now, after the announcement, Red Hat says that it won't cut prices to compete with Oracle, and plans to continue working closely with the company.

What I don't get is why would a comapny that has say RedHat, want to purchase a support contract with Oracle when they could get one that is around the sma pricing from the folks that MAKE the OS!

Seems silly to me. It's like having my GM dealer offering the same price to fix my Honda, even though they didn't make it, and are probably not as verbose on the inner workings.

Oracle is just plowing the earth for a cheap pickup. First they make RH the perferred oracle os then when they are ready they crush it and later buy for cheap.

RH is left only with some patients and a few lawyers to sue and hope.

yeah, but what exactly does Red Hat own?

I'll do some reading about this first, since I don't believe everything I read in the tech news anyway, maybe there's some decent takes on this.

Offhand I don't see a SCO situation here. Oracle has a history of doing silly things, not as silly as SCO, and it's hard to work out just what Oracle's angle is here.

I'm calling RH the SCO of th future. ever call them for support on ES? I think there is a reason they are still in hillibillie heaven.

I can just see the cost structure Oracle will come up with having suffered with them in the past.

I'm still dreading the day Oracle buys out MySQL.

Well lets see you're bleeding cash, stock price depressed. A heavy hitter is at your door willing to buy your brains as they leave. Novell is funding the biggest threat to your market share and the real tipping point is that RH no longer the leader nor the top in the field.

I think it may be time to hang the hat on the hook and say its been fun and cash out before you loose the hat, the coat and your pants.
