|
I'm looking for suggestions on a linux distribution. It's for a medium-old computer that will be used almost exclusively for burning DVDs. (Legal notice: Only non-commercial, privately owned DVDs) I'd like to set up my old PC to burn the discs so it doesn't tie up my main computer, and the microsoft OS that's on it was old even when I was still using it (95 shell I think) so that's out.
I don't have any linux experience (though i've used unix shells a bit) so I'm looking for something on a liveCD I can try. Here's what I need:
compatible with somewhat older hardware
easy to install, configure, and use
can run DVD burning software
free (as in beer)
I have a knoppix disc I haven't tried yet, so please let me know any suggestions or favorite flavors you all have.
Thanks folks! |

I have the free version of madriva 2k6 on a pc. ITs stable. THe only thing is you'd need to check to see if that old PC is able to work with the OS |

Pretty much any Linux distro can run on old hardware and are free, and ALL of them can burn DVD's... If you ask people what their favorite flavor is, you'll just end up with a flame war... My suggestion is just head over to www.linuxiso.org, download a few distros, and try them out. Use whichever you like best. |

1) Fix your link, it's got a comma at the end of it.
2) Page is down due to hardware failure, so feel free to disregard my previous point. |
