Long time no post, but I figured some of the Mac guys around here might be able to shed some light on a potential problem I'm having.

I've wrapped my nightly backups into a launchd job which has been succesffully running every night (using dirvish). That's great, except my computer has to be awake for the backup to run.

Being environmentally conscious and everything, it would be nice to be able to put my laptop to sleep, and have it wake up in the middle of the night, get its backup on, and put itself back to sleep when its done (or after a short idle period, so if backups ran late, or someone was on the computer it wouldn't go back to sleep).

I've seen SleepX, which was just posted on ADC, and that might be the right direction, but thought I'd pick the collective doggy brain first.

in the system preferences, Energy Saver, there is a schedule button. You can set a schedule for it to come on, and just use the regular energy saver options to have it progressively shut back down. Or set a shutoff time.
