Post Posted: Wed Aug 02, 2006 5:33 am   Post subject: My AMD XP3000+ Thinks It Is A 2800+ Reply with quote Back to top

I've been fighting with this issue for months. I have an AMD Athlon XP 3000+, Barton Core. I'm not sure if it is a 166 FSB or 200 FSB though. It will not run at 166x13 or 200x11. If I try either of those settings, it reboots as soon as Windows XP Pro loads. It runs stable at 166x12.5.

the CPU is properly installed with Artec 5 Silver.

It is not running hot. Idle 46C, load 54C

The system is clean, no dust build up.

The memory is good according to Memtest86+.

All the latest drivers and BIOS is loaded.

Any ideas?

Did it ever work at the normal setting of 13x166, or has it been this way since you got it?

Yes, it used to work just fine at 166x13. Was stanle enough to run for weeks at a time.

Seems like the next step is to step backwards in time and remember any hardware and/or bios changes that you might have done before you noticed this. What does it run at if you set the FSB to 166 and multiplier to auto?

Regardless of what the FSB is set to, it stays on a multiplier of 13 on auto

Then set the FSB to 166. Problem solved?

Problem not solved. I stated in my first post that "It will not run at 166x13 or 200x11. If I try either of those settings, it reboots as soon as Windows XP Pro loads. It runs stable at 166x12.5."

A motherboard, also known as main board, logic board or system board, and sometimes abbreviated as mobo, is the central or primary circuit board making up a complex electronic system, such as a computer.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS to default? Try booting with minimal hardware attached (unplug external devices). If you have multiple sticks of memory, tryusing one at a time and booting.

I had this problem recently myself. The fix was simple, it was the bank placement of the memory.

I had the 2 sticks of DDR in banks one and two.

Changed to banks One and Three, and now I could set the FSB and multipliers to the correct sums, to get the 3000+ and not reboot.

Tried it and it still messes up on 166x13. tried banks 2 and 3 too. Thanks anyway.
