Suh-WEET! If anyone was wondering, here's the (translated) info from the horse's mouth:
Famitsu wrote:6,000,000 Wii Units Estimated to Ship in Late March of Next Year
On May 5, 2006, Nintendo announced its earnings for March 2006 [note: that's the end of one of the financial quarters in Japan...I think] at the Osaka Stock Exchange. During the press question and answer session that followed, the issue of price for the next generation "Wii" game console was raised.
Nintendo indicated that they "do not intend to set the price at over 25,000 yen". Three generations of Nintendo hardware--the Super Famicon [Super NES], Nintendo 64, and Gamecube have all debuted at 25,000 yen. In addition, the number of consoles available at the end of next March is expected to be 6,000,000, along with 17,000,000 units of software (worldwide base - from notes in the earnings report).
According to Nintendo, the debut date and price will be officially announced at a later date.
Well, I'm excited. Now here's the real question--is it gonna be region free? |

$250? I thought it was going to be $200.... Damn currency conversion...
If it was $200 and included all cables and adapters I need (even to run it on a TV that just uses coax), two controllers, and at least one game, I'd buy it.
I paid $200 for my Super Nintendo. I'm not paying more for another console that probably won't be as good. (oooh, everything is rendered now and has higher polygon count oooooh, I don't care, hire an artist and draw some damn sprites.)
The waggly controller deal seems pretty gimmicky, like every other non-controller accessory. (Lightgun, ROB, power glove, power pad, super-scope-6, virtual boy...) Sure it was cool to use a bazooka, for a little while, then it got tiring and boring. My guess is eventually people will get tired of waving around sticks and want a normal comfortable controller (which will be sold separately).
And if they market something as Backwards Compatible, that shouldn't mean you can run ROMs on it. That should mean that I can plug in my damn cartridges and play them without paying to download them. If I wanted to run ROMs I don't need a new console to do that.

250$ for a real next-gen console. How fucking sweet is this ?! I'm buying one on launch day. Heck, i might pre-order one.
i think this is the first time i've ever been "excited" about getting a console the day it comes out. i typically wait a few months to see what kind of 3rd party support the thing will have.
i have faith that the wii will wrock you. |
