When trying to access our print server it sstates that "cannot print because all connections are already in use

however it just happens for one machine, while the rest of the network can print just fine. Has anyone ever ran into this before because this is making absoltuely no sense to me at all (if it wa all systme that I could understand it, but one?!)

it is possible, although it's an XP box that is being used for the print server. If I recall it has a hard coded connection limit?

Ok found out what it was. Had soem sessions that had been idle for a few hours (or in one cause, two days), so once they were killed off, it worked like a charm.

Although noticed the peak was ten. Is this an XP hardcap?

Yes. Workstation OSes (inc. NTW and 2KP) have a limit of 10 concurrent connections.

The following is a patch to increase the 10 connection limit.

EventID 4226 Patcher Version 2.23d (english)

Quote:
Instruction:
Just download the patcher and execute it. It will automatically find the windows directory and ask, if it should increase/decrease. For higher values, please check the help with parameter /?.
After a successful patch, the new TCPIP.SYS will be automatically installed. After that, the computer should be restarted.

Heres some info on the patch

[edit]Also, just to follow up to Toxins post...if your going to use a piece of equipment/software to perform a mission critical or important task, its best to have the appropriate hardware/software such as a server OS[/edit]

You wont' get any arguement from me. I"m basically trying to clean up from the last guy that thought Windows 98 was a workstation OS......while we're in 2006......ugh. Sadly I dont' have the power to enact change.....

at least not for another two weeks

Twisted Evil

At least you have PC's to work with. My boss is scared of technology and insists that we stay with the old 70's style dumb terminals.

When I say PC's could increase productivity by 25% at least...his first response is "That means we can reduce our staff by 25% then"...Wrong...means that the department which is behind can finally catch up and do the work they need to do!

On another note...I still have a windows 95 box acting as a communications server Shocked But this is mainly due to a client having other priorities than swtiching thier transfer process over to our sftp server.

that sounds like my soon to be former job (at least in 1.5 weeks), where until this year they had all their banking and financial stuff running on VAX servers......

yes.....you heard me......VAX servers....aka things that now have less power than my pokcet calculator and suck back 100 times as much juice.

they finally (after twenty five years) will be decommishiioning the propriatory software that runs on it and replacing it with SAP. Granted it means that my old department will be gone by Fall but not liek I care Very Happy
