Ok, so here's the deal, I want to put a NAS at my parents house so I can back up all the computers there, mine too when I feel like it. I want redundant hard drives, not like the Linksys where it "backs-up" on a schedule but actual RAID. Snap servers are expensive, more than what I want to spend, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
Also I'm not a Linux person, don't mind learning just never had a reason too, so I was wondering if Linux will do software RAID like windows server, and/or will it support Promise RAID controllers and the like, and if so should I just build me a small Linux box with Samba, or something of that nature, and use it as my NAS?
Any suggestions, criticisms, or what have you are appreciated. |

I read a pretty good review of this device on Tom's Hardware. It does 'RAID 0', Raid 1 and JBOD. |
