ok, first off where is it in the registry that i edit it to change the background color on start up as well as the colors for the bar at the top of the preparing network connections part? my second question is a problem that i'm having. i boot into safe mode to try to replace msgina.dll but it says that windows is using it. is there any way around that without a registry edit because the last time i did that i destroyed windows. thanks

1) HKEY_USERS/.Default/Control Panel/Colors

2) Windows will let you rename files which are in use. Boot to Safe Mode With Command Prompt, rename the existing MSGINA.DLL to something else, then rename your edited copy to MSGINA.DLL (it must already be in WINNT/SYSTEM32).
