So my birthday is Friday and it appears as if my parents are giving me an Apple Store gift card so that I acn put it towards the new laptop I plan on getting.

Two months ago I was thinking about getting an iBook, the only thing that was discouraging was the max resolution of 1024x768. I was hoping at MacWorld Apple was going to upgrade/replace the iBook, but they didn't.

So now I am in a precdicament. I don't want to pay $2k for the new Mac Book. I heard a rumor that a lesser version could come out in April or May but that is not for sure. Plus there is no telling how much it will be or what the specs are like.

I am not looking for a desktop replacement. I am replacing my old laptop but it's mostly a toy. It's my first mac so it's supposed to be something to play with.

So what should I do?

Is any of this getting through to you?" -FRY

The main thing to think about is what are you going to use it for, and is that application going to run under Rosetta, or is there a native application out. There are very few applications running native Intel. Rosetta is not the same as the "fat app" architecture previously used, this is a very different migration. Real time applications will by and large not be able to run on Rosetta, so you'll need to wait for ports for music software (except perhaps Logic and Garage Band), and video software (except Final Cut). iLife '06 should be native, for what it is worth.
