|
When I try to play a DVD on my laptop, It plays fine, but the sound level is very low. I have tried with WMP 10.0, Zoom Player Professional 4.02, InterActual Player 2.0, and Winamp5.08e with the same results. Any ideas as to causes and cures? |

Have you double-checked the various volume sliders in the Volume Control dialog?
Seems like a no-brainer, but I got caught out only two days ago wondering why I wasn't getting any sound out of my laptop apart from the hardware volume button beeps (It's a ThinkPad). Took several hours before I thought of double-clicking on the speaker icon and checking there, only to see that "Wave" was down to minimum level. |

You're welcome.
It's a consequence of becoming more skilled and experienced, I've noticed; one tends to overlook the basic stuff in favour of more complex causes.
I don't know if it's a form of arrogance ("Of course it can't be that; that's just too simple!") or more a "use it or lose it" effect of our jobs (by the time the problems get to us the simple stuff has usually been eliminated by those lower down the ladder) so that we just forget the basics.
Three times in the last week I've been tripped up by simple stuff. Only one of them was embarrassing, though, as it was in front of a client. The other two went unwitnessed by anyone else so I was able to save my geek cred. |
