If i use the first part of my harddisk it makes a clicking noise. Would that indicate that it is ready to fail or is that normal with a 20 GB seagate? |

If you use the first part of your harddisk - Do you mean accessing the inner part of the platter? It makes a clicking noise - Is the clicking loud or faint. Does it go *click*click*click* or more like !thunk!thunk!thunk! |

Could be a bad HD or bad sector. The only way to know for sure is to fdisk and format to be sure.
here are the steps you might wanna take after backing up stuff:
1-fdisk (remove all partitions and reboot)
2-fdisk/mbr (3 times in a row)
3-fdisk (create one large primary dos partition and reboot)
4-format c u/c (this is the part that will tell you if the drive is ok or not)
If you can get through this part without the fdisk or format hanging up or recovering lost allocation units you should be fine. |
