stumped, puzzled, and frustrated

trying to allow a mac to access windows shares

tried everything under the sun that i can think of to get this to work, and while i am getting close, still no luck.

I enabled shared services for Macintosh on the 2003 server, set to apple clear text or microsoft authentication. I installed the MSUAM deal on the mac.

<apple> + K and enter "server/share" and the little MS logon screen comes up. Key in the proper username and password and get: MOUNT FAILED: Could not mount volume "sharename."

I know it's working, as if i enter in bogus info i get username/password does not exist type dialog.

Anyone have any ideas?

I had this SAME problem...

There's a setting in the comptuer management for local security policies to turn of require encrypted / secure password protection (I forget exactly where it is...I have a link to a description of it at home).

MS turned on a security setting in Server 2003 that wasn't on in 2000 -- and Apple doesn't support it.

Macs and Windows Server 2003 discussion which links you here with what to change.

Give it a try..

hmmm. still no luck.

I disabled the need to force the digital signing of comminucations, and enabled is agreed for the DC. rebooted the DC and the mac. Still get the mounting failed message.

I know that the mac is communicating with the DC, as when i made the change to enable the saving of passwords on the client, the option on the mac to do so which was once greyed out, is now enabled.

When i try to connect, i am trying to connect to afp://server/share.
I am connecting to the server as a Registered User, trying variations of the accceptable username (username. domain\username, username@domain) and still get Mount Failed.

Any other ideas?

removing the request in the mac AD client to map the users home folder seemed to do the trick.

Unchecked that and was able to mount the shared drive instantly.

thanks for the help guys.
