Speedstrip is a neat idea fer those who don't want to hassle with wiremodding their chip.

At least they tell you up front if this product is fer you...

Quote:
Please take a moment before deciding to purchase and install this product to make sure that it will work with your AMD Athlon™ XP processor. Locate the label on the chip, as shown above, and be certain that the model number starts with “AXDA”. If it does - you're all set! If it does not - do not buy this product!

I would think that locking there cpu would hurt them. Amd (as far as I Know) has been knowen for being able to be overclocked. It's been an unofficial selling point. imo.

If they work, it's a great idea - I dunno about you, but If I wanted to overclock my Athlon, I wouldn't want to go around modding it - this would be so much easier...

I forgot what was entailed in unlocking these chips, but if memory serves me correctly you have to remove part of the conductive surface, then gap the chips jumper with something really cundictive, and then seal it back up.

In any case this is a GREAT idea for those wanting to unlock these chips, keeps the warranty and resale intact, and it is a lot easier, and doesn't run the same risk of screwing up your chip trying to unlock it

AMD chips weren't always unlocked, but many people thought with the BIOS options on the MOBO they were. Often you had to do something to unlock them to actually get your machien to BOOT with the oc'd settings.
