Can somebody tell me how can I recover lost data from formated (by mistake) NTFS disk partition (now formated as FAT32).
PLEASE HELP... |

1. how large is your harddisk/partition and have you and other partition with more free space than that?
2. what did you loss, simple txt or something complicated as your mpg collection, or something in between?
3. How did you formatted it, and how long did it take?

I have other partition with the same size. There was many types of files. Simple everything (programs, documents, websites, pictures, movies, ...)
It happens 2 days ago. By trying to reinstall windows the setup formated my disk - both partitions (i know, what a big mistake...!). New windows setup finished succesfully on the second partition. I don't know why, but it format my first partition as FAT32 (before it was NTFS).
I think that everything is lost. HUH... only a wonder can save me... |

but csign is right if he's implying that you may be able to recover some of what you lost with a file recovery program
temporary replacement signature . . . please stand by |

i think it is called undelete...i used it abiut a yr ago recovered about 85 to 90% of my data if i remember rite |

I'm still bewondered why Brain didn't bring this up but BeOS has a program were you could see what is written on your harddisk, byte by byte was writen. |

I do, Oh wait listen is not the right word. But it starts with an l at least[ ]
A bit more serious. BeOS can work from a live cd(isn't this how the pro version is sold) so you would have to install it anyway on the disk. Besides if you have this kind of problem it is much easier if you have an second (big)harddisk around. Than you don't have to worry that it is in correct the first time.
Should write an "How do i fix my stupidity with harddisk" howto.
Have the experience for it. |

OK Guys I have to thank you for your interest. But I guess that all I have to do now is to resign with losing "my all" (all my creative works, website design and so on). It's hard for me but trying those thinks like "installing BeOS" and so on... is above my power (for now). You know, this could be a good help ring far all people who have same experiences like me or similar.
If you know about some software that can recover data from deleted, formated hard drives, please write it. It could useful for many people in the future. I think.

I have used that proggy before and it works fucking awesome, the only thing it can't recover is (obviously) stuff that has been overwritten. I recently used it to save a buddy's music and pron after he formatted. . .partitioned. . .installed Mandrake. . .formatted again. . .partitioned again (yes, he had no clue what he was doing). And after all that he ended up with 6 partitions that M$ fdisk reported as using 127% of the drive space.
Little notes though. . .the program does take forever (but its worth it) and it is definitely best to throw a second hard drive in to recover to. . .
