Wierd tape trive issue (?)

So I got my tape drive, and I started a full backup of my hard disk.

I have 4 tapes that have "2:1 compresson, 10/20 GB capacity". So I have my backup archive of all my crap, a 10gig or so file. Well the Tapeware software says that it's still backing up that file, and it is on the last tape. Shocked

Now since my hard drive (80GB) is only ~36% used, I know that it's impossible for that to be a 60GB+ file. So what's full of BS? Did "df" lie about the disk percentages? Do those tapes hold less than 20GB each? Or does "Tapeware" not know wtf it's talking about? Confused

it sucks. we used it for awhile, we use Veritas now.

It's a Seagate Certance, same with the tapes.

We also use Veritas... Not too bad, i've had issues when the scheduling automagically decides to quit working though... Confused

Well I figured out my problem. I had a tarball that was ~20GB in size, and the backup software simply couldn't handle a file that big. I unzipped it and deleted the tarball and tried again, and it worked. Smile
