I did everything the article said up to step 11, including the saving of the ntoskrnl.exe file, backing up, and saving mine in a new location... Rebooted fine
then i regedit'ed the sfcdisable to the ffffff9d value, then rebooted, no problems
checked event viewer, got the "Windows File Protection is no longer active" message. Copied MY version of the boot file from c:\Mystartup (made just to hold my version), to c:\winnt\system32\ and rebooted
now i get "Windows 2000 could not start because the follow... \syste,32\ntoskrnl.exe
Please re-install a copy of the above file"
ye old corrupt file problem. I dont have any service packs/patches for anything cept the code red patch.. I'd like to know 2 things:
1) How can I boot to Dos to copy the origonal over, I'm new to Win 2k, I'm used to the command prompt option on F8, but win 2k doesnt have this...
and 2) What did I do wrong =/
Thanks in advance
-DiosT
Also, I'm using an image i saved(as a .bmp !) from the gallery, not one i created

1) Use the Windows 2000 CD (or install disks) and use the Recovery Console to repair your mistake.
2) I haven't the faintest idea. [ ]

Original install CD is fine. Since you'll be replacing the broken copy with the backup you made you won't have to worry about SP incompatibility issues (if there are any).
Image needs to be 16 colours. The final bitmap must be 153,718 bytes. Anything else and it won't work.
