Hope you guys can help. I'm dual booting Win2k and Linux using this boot.ini method and it works fine. But I want to change the default OS to Linux and nothing I try seems to work. Normally there are just the two OS's to choose from, but if I change anything in the boot.ini file I get an additional line "Windows 2000 (default" which is always highlighted. It's like Microsoft have thought of this and want to make sure there's no way around it.
Does anyone know how to force the boot loader to select Linux by default?
Any help much appreciated.
Simon

Two ways of doing it:

1) When you're in Win2K, open up the System control panel applet. Click on Advanced, then Startup and Recovery. Use the drop-down box to pick the default OS.

2) Manually edit BOOT.INI. Here's my BOOT.INI file, so you can have a visual reference:
Code: Select all
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=C:\
[operating systems]
C:\="Microsoft Windows 98"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="LWD Win2K Professional" /fastdetect /kernel=kernel35.exe
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT\="LWD Win2K Professional (FailSafe)" /fastdetect

Now, I don't have Linux installed, so I don't know what the correct syntax for specifying a Linux partition would be, but I hope the above information has given you enough to work with.
