Hi folks,
How might I determine the brand and type of media I have? Media are coded with the brand if I'm not mistaken. Ones I've got are unbranded.
I also want to determine whether they're DVD-RW's or just DVD-R's. I can't seem to erase but I actually ordered DVD-RW's.
Thanks. |

Got a copy of Nero? Slap a disc in your writer and click on Recorder -> Disc Info. |

Hey,
Thanks for the replies.
I have Nero 5.5.10 or something on my laptop and it has Medium Info. Doesn't seem to tell me much other than disc capacity. My Re-Writer is in my PC (with Sonic MyDVD and Pinnacle Instant DVD/CD). Does it have to be checked in my Re-Writer?
Or do I need a newer version of Nero? I've just got an OEM version. |

Nero should tell you the type of disc as well as its capacity, at the top of the Disc Info dialog.
If your laptop doesn't have a DVD writer in it then try checking it in your other PC. |

In Sonic DVD, I'm getting DVD Open Multiborder (DVD F
Zone?
Volume details, and disc capacity.
Is F8 code for something?
Oooo, Pinnacle DVD tells me. Thanks for the help. Didn't realize the writing software gives you this info.
Still wondering about F8 and Zone though |

f8= no clue
zone= region....
a VERY handy tool....
http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
will let you check the media write code as well as the media write strategy.... very handy for those cheapo disks.... I have found from even "reliable" disc manfactures that sometimes the media is coded for 2x for the write strategy is listed as 4x.... cheap bastards.... Nero pays attention to the write strat and will only burn at that speed.... so If you see 4x on your disc and nero only says 2x.... upgrade yer firmware on the burner just to be sure... check it again ... and If it still says 2x in nero guess what... you got taken... bastards.... |
