I've played around with Mandrake 8.0, my HP Pavilion (9694c), and my Riptide soundcard, the not too obscure sound/modem combo card. I've found out how to do it, even though I'm just a filthy newbie. [^]

Goto http://www.opensound.com, download and install the latest version of OSS. Its only a demo, but I haven't ran it for 30 days yet. [XX(]

Read the documentation on how to install it, email me any questions you have (ultimatezzz@yahoo.com) about installing it.

Install it! If its giving you a hassel, you know what to do...:hammer:

At the end of the installation, select "Auto Dectect" or something similuar. If it says must restart the setup program just say yes.

Reboot and press F1 to enter the BIOS configuration screen (when the HP logo comes up).

Set OS to "OTHER". Save and restart...

I recommend whenever you want to run Windows again set the OS to "Windows 95/98" or "Windows 2000" respecivly. I haven't set it to Windows95/98 yet because I haven't gone into Windows. But I'm not ready to play around with Windows yet.Aaah, Windows, the ill tempered OS. :shooter3:

Now its my turn to ask a question: How do I turn the volum down on the sound? Its blowing my speakers off and melting my ears. :pain3:
