Yes, it was about a foot long and made of caramel and chocolate and took about an hour to eat, hence the name. It's the one on the left in this picture:

i thought the Charleston chew was the original chewy candy. REmembers commercials about quick claude trying to eat the candy quickly and he failed. Ahhhh childhood memories |

On the candy topic: I've had the snickers marathon bar (it came in my race packet).
On the thread topic:
I just got home from the Cleveland Marathon this past Sunday. Amazing what a difference being prepared made. I went out in 94 minutes (aimed for 95) and came in with 92/93ish minutes. Negative splits are great, when you can manage it!
The new Cleveland course is great. There are a few hills when you go over bridges and what not, but it is mostly flat, and you get to see a lot of Portland. You start downtown, go west along the lake, then pass through the city going east, head north back to the lake, and go west back to downtown. Being at mile 18 and realizing I had another hour to run was pretty gut wrenching, but nothing can compare to the feeling of being at mile 24 and realizing I had a full 19 minutes to still qualify for the Boston Marathon!
I am definately going to run Boston next April, and in the meantime will be converting to 5ks until mid summer when I concentrate on 10k. Next November, hopefully I can get enough time off to get to San Antonio for another marathon.
Boo-yeah!
Best part: My friends got to about 15 or 16 different spots on the course. What freaks! It was great. There were three girls from Duke that got to 5 or 6 spots, which was impressive, but I hate to think about how many traffic laws my friends had to break to keep getting themselves positioned over the span of that 3 hours. |

Hey Webster there is a nice race here in Huntsville. Here are the specifics...
Mercedes Benz Cotton Row Run, i believe it is a 5k...and yes you could crash in the guest house.
<edit> It is also a 10K</edit> |

Cool, thanks for the offer. Right now, though, I'm probably not going to do a lot of travelling for a 5k or 10k race, since there are so many in my area. I'll save the large travelling for the marathon (which is 20 miles longer than a 10k). Thanks for the offer, though, and if I happen to be in the area I'll try to remember to get a hold of you first. |

Not a problem...we have the Rocket City Marathon that is a full marathon. It has been run earlier this year I believe. Also alot of people train for the more prestigious marathons by doing the RC marathon. Good luck...! |

Well, I posted the pictures that they took. From the pictures, I counted 15 different places that they were at. There were a few pictures so blurry and useless I didn't post them, and I can think of at least 2 spots that there isn't a picture from, so that means they got to 17-19 spots on the course, not including when I got on the bike path at the top of Martin Luther King Blvd and they saw me already heading down it.
I'm impressed. |

I don't run marathons but I know of a big one in Cincinnati. They called it "the Flying Pig Marathon" and I believe it was 5k. I haven't lived there in 4 years so Im not real sure when and where it is, but if anyone is interested I could find out. |

Well, I ran the San Antonio marathon this past weekend. I was doing well until around mile 12 when I repulled my hamstring. Hence my pace going from 6:42 for the first half to 7:50 for the second half of the race. I just slowed up and massaged it as I ran every couple of minutes. I didn't run the time that I wanted to, but I did requalify for Boston somehow and placed second in my age group. Yesterday I was hurting pretty bad though; I slept for 13 hours last night. I think the worst of it is that the people I am staying with smoke too much and its making me feel like shit. So it goes. |
