In internet exploder 5 the addresses of the sites that you visit are stored so that the next time you type something similar in the bar all of the options are displayed for you to choose from. This is a good option. Except for the fact that I have 5 to 10 entries for each site. These addresses are for subpages on the site.

Ex: I have not only the homepage address for aint-it-cool-news.com as well as an entry for every subpage I have visited there (aint-it-cool-news.com/whatever.html etc).

My question is this: Where are these stored?? They seem to be unrelated to Temp Internet files and history. If you clear the history all of the address bar entries are deleted. I don't want to wipe everything out just the stuff that isn't the homepage name. Hex editing or other file editing isn't a problem - just can't find the file I need to edit. We are wondering about it in ME, NT, and 2K.

It's in the registry somewhere. I read something a while back. I'll look for it.

Ok. Sounds like a plan. Awaiting an answer as well. Equally curious.

About the Autocomplete URL's, You can find them in the registry (on my win2k machine) Under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs
You will see a list of all the URLs you Typed in IE, They are Numbered, So I dont know if Just deleting them will work, or if you actually have to have them in order. Let me know if you just delete them, and if it still works.

Not a problem Random, I was A Newbie to windows at one time too. To edit the registry, you can use the tool windows provides, "regedit", you can get to it by clicking on the start menu, clicking on run, and type in "regedit" without the quotes, then click on OK.

This will bring up the registry editor, which does look quite complicated, but its not. now the values that I entered before:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs
You can access the same as windows explorer, with HKEY_CURRENT_USER being a main folder, and the rest are subfolders, double clicking on the main folder will bring up the list of subfolders. Then in the right hand side of the box are all the settings for that software/folder.

Now random, if you want to find something, there is a search form in there, just click on edit, then find, type in your search words, and wait until it finds the word (this may take awhile because the registry is a huge file basically, approx. 18 MB). If this is what you were refering too, Happy editing, If its not, just post, or e-mail me with more of an explaination, Ill be happy to help, as others will be to...I'm sure.

Also, What were you refering to random when you said Smart Menu? Do you mean the autocomplete for IE? if so, open IE, click on "tools" then "internet options". When Internet Options Appears click on the TAB that says "Content", On the bottom right you will see a button named "Auto complete", Click on this button, and uncheck the options you dont want, or check them, if you do want them.

Do you mean the stupid "I'll only show you the most recently used items" crap, where only part of the start menu is shown?

If so, then go to START - SETTINGS - TASKBAR & START MENU and turn OFF the option for Personalised Menus.

This is what I was thinking of. But there's another way!

You can simply highlight any "autocomplete" item and hit the delete key; or right click on any autocomplete item and select delete from the context menu.

You also can erase all autocomplete entries at once by clicking to Tools/Internet Options/Content/ and then selecting "Autocomplete" and using the offered options to clear various kinds of saved information.
