Post Posted: Thu Aug 28, 2003 1:34 pm   Post subject: linksys wireless products and windows XP Reply with quote Back to top

Hello. I posted a message related to this awhile back, and recently found part of the solution to my problem. I was using a linksys wireless router and the wireless usb adapter, and everything was working fine until I installed the latest windows updates from microsoft. I contacted linksys about this just recently, and they mentioned that there is a known issue with windows XP home and the latest patches from microsoft, but that they were unaware of it affecting windows XP pro users. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue, and if so, if they have a solution.

Any info would be appreciated.

the problem is that the usb adapter, although functioning, is unable to see any available networks, when I know there are 2 available. The adapter was working fine before the windows updates were installed. I know it's not the adapter because I tried multiple adapters, and 2 base stations.

I had the same problem, I was able to make mine connect after I re-entered the WEP key.

well, i tried it on 2 comps, both running xp pro. one was an ibm laptop, the other was my main computer using an asus a7n8x. One thing I should have mentioned is that, once I plug the adapter in, and it gives you the little connection icon with the x over it down in the task bar, I open the icon window and attempt to click the advanced button, but I am unable to do so. The button is greyed out, so it can't be clicked. This is where my problem is, so I don't think that I could enter a WEP key period...

Ive had this issue recently after I reimaged one of my comps...its an easy fix...just go to your admin tools, then click on services...Find Wireless Zero Configuration. Right click on the entry and click start. If this fixes the problem go into the properties of Wireless Zero Configuration and change the startup type to automatic.

You should be able to reenter the Wep key once that service is started.
