Assuming your monitor can handle it (which it might not) bump up your Vertical refresh rate 5 at a time until you get the desired refresh rate.
On my PC, even though my monitor couldn't handle the highest refresh rate as set in the XF86Config-4 it would always default to 60Hz when in 1280x1024 mode. So I kept bumping my vert refresh rate in XF86Config-4 till the /var/log/XFree86.0.log file indicated I was finally at 75Hz which IS support by my monitor. The maximum value in my XF86Config-4 is 130Hz and my horizontal is 85Khz.

If you look in your xsever config file, under the monitor section, you can change the refresh rates manually. I got the mmy monitor specs off the manufacture and edited it manually, it worked for me. But it might be a ggod idea to know how the console works before hand, just in case |
