Tue Jun 03, 2003 6:42 pm Post subject: Cisco Ethernet WIC? |
|
I have a Cisco Router that has just one ethernet port. I am in need of a second ethernet port on it. I know there is a MODULE that has one or even two 10/100 ethernet ports (expensive as all heck) on it but I haven't been able to find a WIC that has that. I personally have a DSU T1 WIC that I'm going to sell to buy an ethernet one if I can find one. The WIC-1ENET is only for the 1700 series so that one is a no go for me.
Any suggestions. |

What model Cisco router?
WIC = Wan Interface Card. The RJ45 on those, as you probably know, are G.703 120-ohm interfaces (ISDN PRI) or you got the serial mini connector. For my 3640s I have a NM-1E2W and a NM-2FE2W module. WIC1Ts are the serial port cards, WIC1Es are the E1 cards. I don't think they market a WIC-FE for anything other than the 1700 series.

is selling a NM-2E2W for $750 used (new $2500)... fwiw |

**slaps self** DOH
I'm sorry, this is for a 2600 series router. I can't use a NM-2E2W as I'm sure you already know.
Let me tell you what I'm doing.
I got a 2620 DC router last year (before I new squat) and it sat collecting dust. Now I finally got an AC power supply for it (ebay new for 27 bucks) and I want to put it to use. I've got a DSUT1 but of course that is useless to me since I've got a cable internet connection. I need to have a second ethernet port if I want to utilize the router. This is all so I can of course learn more about Cisco routers. I've also got a 2900 series switch and a WatchGuard Firebox 1000 (on loan) to work with. So if I can get an extra Ethernet port, I'm set.
Right now, the only alternative I can find is a NM-1FE2W (works for the 2600) but that cost about $750.
I think I'll ebay the DSU T1 to help cut down some of the costs.
thanks,
the beav |

The NM-2FE2WI works too. I've seen the 1 port ones for as low as $145 used, but those are only 10 megabit too. In fact, a 2620 with an NM-2FE2WI is a 2621.. In fact I think that's your only option. There is no WIC card for fast (or slow) ethernet, thanks Cisco for locking us into a particular hardware solution. |

Thanks, I'll search for one on ebay today. If I can find one at that price, the sale of the DSU T1 should just about cover it.
many thanks,
Beav |

Ok, I'm a bit confused.
I couldn't find a listing for an NM-2FE2WI
However there is an NM-2FE2W and NM-1FE2W
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/prod_models_comparison.html
The single port one appears to be 100Mb.
Also, the 2621s that I've been finding on ebay didn't have any Modules with them. However they have an extra ethernet port built in.
Could you please clarify or should I just dye my hair blonde |

that's my poor spelling. NM-2FE2W = Network Module, 2 Fast Ethernet, 2 WIC |

I think I found what you were talking about for 10MB.
NM-1E or a NM-4E
MUCH cheaper. 10Mbps is juuuuuust fine for my purposes. |
