I want to replace my onboard raid, since I'm going to replace my MB in a bit with the Asus A7N8X or the Epox 8RDA+ I really don't need all the features of the Asus <dual Lan serial ATA> and the Epox from what I understand, also has the multipler changer in it that made the Asus famous!.

I have The Gigabyte VAXP

i'm looking at this card from highpoint

I want to make the change seamless with no formating or reinstalling.. is that going to be possible?

other ideas <mobo's and cards...> are welcomed as well

I have an IWill SIDERAID 100 / (Highpoint 370 series) RocketRAID board. I had to flash the BIOS on the board to get it to work properly under WinXP (it worked great under WinME). With the updated BIOS, the RAID0 performance is signficantly lower than it was before the BIOS update.

Note that there is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe and an A7N8X (not deluxe). The non-deluxe version lacks SATA RAID, Gigabit Ethernet, and Dolby digital encoding MCP-T Soundstorm audio.

What's up with the VAXP. I've got the same board and have been very happy with it. Running a XP2200+ with XMS3200 Corsair (DDR400) and a Ti4200. Runs great...

Get the Lumberjack BIOS and get full Promise RAID functionality.

In any event, changing the controller type means you pretty much will need to rebuild the array. Not a bad thing, just back everything up...

oh now thats going to SUCK can any one confirm this?

This is the main drive for windows too I had thought that I would load the drivers first and then move the drives over. That wouldn't work?

He is right. If you change raid chips you have redo the array. If you keep the same chip, (like highpoint-highpoint or promise-promise) you could probably get away without rebuilding the array.
