ppl tend to fear what they don't understand. wireless is great when the proper security measures have been taken. once you've used wireless you'll never go back! |

Yes, if I weren't getting married next month I'd be buying a wireless router now. They just had a Linksys (I believe it was) router on sale for 69.99 after rebate at Circuit City. Put that together with a wireless pci card for 39.99 and you've got a whole network for 110.00. There were rebates involved, of course. |

Go for the Wireless Router if you have a Laptop. Just make sure you read some articles on securing it. It's not really that hard.
If you only have Desktops, then just stick with the wired router. There really wouldn't be any reason to get wireless. Plus it's cheaper. Cheaper router and cheaper NICs. Plus it's also faster. |

Wireless is also good if you dont feel like tearing up walls to run cable. |

I'm a cable runner in the house...but wireless was pricey when I did it.
Plus, I had easy access to the floors via the crawl space.. Its nice to have ports all over. To bad I'm a dialup-user and its sooo slooowww |

I always forget that. See my father and 2 brothers are Union Electricians. Free cable runs. Ok not really free, it usually costs me a few beers.
FYI: When running cables always run a string with it. In case you need to run another cable. All you have to do is attach the cable to the string, and pull! That's my tip of the day! |

I have everything wired I can, but there's no way to pull a wire to the other side of my apartment without putting holes in the wall and running it outside. Which, this being Maine, isn't such a good idea since I have no control over my heat (the thermostat being downstairs). So right now I have a line I can run all the way across my apartment, but my kitten likes to play with it so I don't actually run it that often. |
