Ok, I have had this problem twice. Both times I have had to reformat and start over. I'm going to put the question up to everyone in the hopes that someone can help.

I have an Abit BP6, 2-566mhz processors, 512 meg ram, 60 gig of HD. I am running Windows 2k with a Hercules Geforce II GTS. I have been running this config for a while now..w/ no problems until this issue showed up. For some odd reason, my directX will all of a sudden stop showing ANY 3d acceleration. This is extremely annoying and would like to know if anyone else has this problem. I really don't feel like rebuilding my machine...b/c this is the ONLY problem I am having w/ it. But it will not let me play Asheron's Call. I would appreciate any input you could give. This is very frustrating.

Thanks in advance.

Well Tweak, I'd like to know how you have dual 566Mhz FC-PGA Celeron's in a BP6, since the board doesn't support FC-PGA or the chip supports SMP? After that answer we'll see what's left!

Sorry for the confusion...I have dual 500's that occasionally *Quake 3* I overclock to 566. No, they aren't the FC-PGA. The problem I don't understand, I wasn't running overclocked w/ this happened. But for some reason, DirectX just stops showing 3d acceleration. Very weird. Again, sorry for mix-up. Didn't realize I did that.

Actually I'm pretty sure that the 566 was available in both PGA and FC-PGA . . the only speed that was made in both types [Very Happy]

Tweak,
as far as your DX problem I'd try downloading and re-installing dx 8.0b the next time this happens and see if re-installing fixes your problem.

I'd also be concerned about your hard disk if this kind of data corruption is a recurring problem.

Well, I'm not getting data corruption anywhere else. And I have reinstalled drivers, DirectX, and did a reinstall windows. Nothing works. The only solution so far has been to reformat, which I ended up doing, but I'm running XP build 2 now, hopefully won't have the same problem. But in case I do...luckily XP has the "save points" to go back. Maybe this will help.

if you're not getting data corruption anyplace else, and reinstalling DX8+ isn't working then it's most likely either a driver or a game engine issue causing the problem

what version of NED's are you using

and what games do you have installed Confused:

well, 7.xx is supposed to be optimized for performance under DX 8 so hopefully that isn't the problem

are you still using 7.xx or have you moved onto some ot the 10.x 11.x or 12.x NED's Confused:

I'm currently using the latest Microsoft Certified Drivers. I'm almost positive they are 12. I'm at work now, I can't be sure. But I would bet they are the 12's b/c I had just d/l them trying to repair it. I d/l them right after it quit working. I have seen a couple of posts on this before...but I can't remember which message board it was on. I don't think it was on this site though.

Well Brain hate to disappoint but the 533 was the only Celery offered in both FC-PGA and PPGA.

Tweak I don't think MS has certified anything above 6.5 of the Detonator 3 drivers, but going to 12.x might be a good idea. Your problem is very odd and you have my sympathy!
