Check the file date stamp when you get back in Windows. The time on it should be whenever you changed it. If it's not, then the file didn't get copied, got overwritten...something.

Okay, i've checked the time/date stamp, n i'm very sure it's changed. It was dated yesterday, midnight. i can tell u now, my hex programme is showing that the word "F.a.r.ts" is still there. But my WinME's Start button is still there and it's still working normally...

I guess I should of said where to get that image if you want it, download this
http://www.littlewhitedog.com/images/LWD_bar.bmp
Put it where ever you want, right click on the Tclock modified clock and choose properites, go to the taskbar tab and from there I think you can figure it out! Make the background white also and viola your startbar can be cool like mine!

ok... in win2k, to manually edit your start button icon, goto /system32/user32.dll... that's the easy part.
Does anyone know how to manually edit the START MENU bitmap that normally reads WINDOWS 2K Professional (or whatever version you run)? Is that classified as an icon, with the strange image size? I can't find any dll files with that image in it. |

Do you mean, modify like the picture in the post about 3 posts above this one?
Or do you mean, something else?

Cool icons... I think he wants to do it the old school way. Not a bad idea because there wouldn't be extra programs loading. |

Has anyone succeeded in finding the bitmap that windows uses as the start menu image? What about going to the next step and using an icon editor to change it, or using a hex editor to change the source file... or is it as easy as just replacing the source file in the /dir?

I spent a few hours looking for it. No luck So i just made a new bitmap and used tclock to change it. Would like to figure it out so tclock doesn't have to load for it to work. Looks like there is a challenge to find a way to make it happen.. Also like to figure out the mouseover on the start button.
One there can only be
and i'm not it. ò¿ò |

Hey Silkworm....Did you ever get it working? I know you E-mailed me and said you figured out what the problem was, but did you get it to say "Farts"?

You can download the source for Tclock and from there open up the *.c files. Take a look at the code and see how it's done. I'm looking for a free C/C++ programming tool and if I do I'll see what I can find!

Conrad,
If your still having problems. Make sure you only have one copy of "explorer.exe" on your HDD. When windows loads explorer.exe it loads the first one it comes across. If you saved a backup make sure its a differnt name not just in another directory. |

You are absolutely correct caveman. Conrad was E-mailing me outside of this discussion, and his OS was using the one on the root of C:. Nice.[^]
